Is there anything more gratifying than a beautiful personal garden? As someone who masters the art of gardening better than writing this blog post, “July means the start of summer holiday and a new rich colour palette, as dahlias, agapanthus and cosmos come into flower.” It’s that time of year when you can enjoy your free time in your garden, filling it with colorful flowers and plants. But, what if you’re a beginner, or don’t feel like a real pro?

As a first step to becoming a green thumb, we’ve selected 3 of Spreaker’s best gardening podcasts that will show you the way. You’ll learn how to do things like divide plants, plant a second round of vegetables, deadhead flowering plants, and more.

So, get to your garden, tune in to these podcasts, and sunbathe until you’ve learned what to do. You can start gardening with an unbeatable tan! Perfect plan! (But don’t forget to use sunscreen!)

1. The PlantAdvice Gardening Podcast by Richard Farrar

The PlantAdvice Gardening Podcast covers all aspects of gardening and horticulture, from general advice to discussions on favorite plants and plant combinations. In addition, you’ll hear reviews of annual garden shows and interviews with key designers and exhibitors. PlantAdvice Gardening‘s aim is to provide a high-quality and comprehensive source on your backyard flora.

Our fave episode: it may be an older episode, but it’s all about gardening tasks necessary to take care of in July. You’ll get special tips and find out more about the plant of the month, the Cosmos bipinnatus.

2. Plant Talk with Fred Hower

Plant Talk is a live, interactive gardening show hosted by “The Ohio Nurseryman,” Fred Hower. Fred has 50+ years experience as a horticultural consultant, certified arborist, and landscape designer. He is literally a walking encyclopedia of horticulture information, answering listeners’ questions in a friendly and entertaining way. Follow the show and if you have any gardening queries, send Fred an email at fred@planttalkradio.com.

Our fave episode: the one where Fred answers questions about hard-to-find plants, as well as watering schedules. It’s a ton of great knowledge you guys, sure to perk up your ears!

3. Landscape and Garden Show with Bob Harvey and Brian Turner

Landscape designer and founder of Edelweiss Design, Bob Harvey knows the stuff that dreams are made of when it comes to putting together your living space. Together with local TV and radio personality Brian “BT” Turner, he’ll guide you towards achieving your own garden-like-Eden, and offer weekly updates on the best outdoors and indoors home experience.

Our fave episode: the hosts created this episode on a hot day, passing along advice on plants that can’t handle the heat and dryness. Plus, learn how landscape and garden designs function as communication tools that can bring neighbors and communities together – pretty interesting!
