CEO RULEZ

We all know that working remotely is great, so I don’t think I’ll have to keep convincing you about that.

Is it a viable option for every organization? Probably not, but it has been working well for us so far, and we’re happy to share our experience with it and continue the conversation around it.

As we’ve already discussed, there are PROs and CONs to working remotely, but I strongly believe that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Instead, I’d like to focus this post on what I personally find challenging as the co-founder/CEO of a remote company, and how I plan to deal with those challenges.

Let’s start with the hardest thing to do, at least for me.

Spreaker Spring Retreat 2016

1
team

We’re back to our homes and desks after an exhilarating four days spent together in a small village close to Bologna, Italy.

This has been the first retreat of 2016 (our last one was this past December in Barcelona), and it’s become another testament to my personal feeling that the more we get to stay and play together, the more the team grows!

We had some really cool moments together, like personally welcoming aboard new team members we’ve been speaking with on Slack for months (which, you know, is weird! but is also one of the more mysterious sides of the remote working). We shared a gorgeous home out in the hills of Italy, cooking, sleeping, working, and just chilling out. It was also the first time Rob had ever been to Italy (he’s still surprised about how Italians cook pasta).

As it happens during professional events, we had a detailed schedule. Here are the highlights from these truly awesome days together:

3 Green Podcasts for Earth Day

Green Podcasts Earth Day

In the 60s Paul McCartney sang “Sit beside a mountain stream / see her waters rise/ Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies.” Today, we could replace “music” with “podcasts” to give it an updated 2000s feel without taking away from its feeling and message. Listening to podcasts instead of songs can be somewhat soothing, bring you back into the moment, and allow you to better enjoy your surroundings.

So, here are our suggestions for celebrating #EarthDay: not a list of movies to watch or rules to follow, but just some hints on what to listen to while you’re going through the motions of your daily routine, to really celebrate and respect mother nature.
