Create Exclusive Podcast Extras with Private Episode Sharing

0

Velvet ropes are seductive. We all want to be in on the mystery, to be one of the few to enjoy what’s behind them. Their very appeal lies in their exclusivity; not everyone gets to go back there. And it’s an ingenious, while simple, marketing tactic that both rewards current fans and clients and draws new ones in.

But how can you apply exclusivity to your podcast when it’s public and accessible to everyone

Spreaker is offering a solution that allows you to share your episodes with a few select listeners: introducing Private Episode Sharing!

And it’s a feature that can serve you both in front of and behind the scenes. Here’s how you can use private episode sharing to excite listeners and improve the podcasting process.

Set up limited-access episodes

Creating exclusive content that only a select few listeners can access is a great way to show thanks. If listeners have stuck around since the beginning or performed a specific action—like donated to your podcast or bought one of your products—you can reward them with an episode that can be listened to by them and only them. And that special content can be whatever you want it to be, from teaser trailers, to interview extras that were cut for time, to insights on the real secret of your success. All you have to do on your end is ensure that the quality of this extra content is high. You want to entice listeners who can’t get to it to do whatever it takes to do so, and that, in turn, garners you more plays, donations, and clients.

Exclusive content can also be the principal way you monetize your podcast. Your podcast could be the product you sell to clients. For example, let’s say you offer language classes over the course of a podcast season. You can set it up so that only those who pay for the course will receive the private link or be able to access the page it’s embedded on. In that way, your podcast is your business.

Create an internal podcast for your company

Podcasting has become a popular medium for internal communications at companies of all sizes. In fact, company podcasts are overtaking company newsletters. Aside from announcing company milestones and giving star employees the public recognition they’re due, podcasts can bring the company culture out to remote workers and bridge time zones. And with special private links to episodes that only employees can access, sensitive information can stay internal.

Improve the production flow

Private sharing can be particularly useful when you’re still in the production stages of your podcast. Co-hosts, producers, or sponsors may need to access your episode before you unveil it to the public: to review final edits, make sure commercials are where they need to be, and check if its contents are as current and relevant as when it was first recorded. Plus, sharing an episode in its final form, in the way it’s meant to be listened to, is quicker and clearer than sending a giant MP3 file via an email or cloud network.

How to share your private episode

Private episode sharing is available to all Pro users who have upgraded to the Broadcaster, Anchorman, and Station plans. You can get a special link the episode can be accessed to through the CMS.

From the CMS, choose the show the episode is a part of, and from there, select the episode you want to share.

In the episode’s settings, you’ll be able to edit its “Visibility.” Change it to “Limited Access.” A new link will appear that you can copy and paste anywhere.

You also have the option of adding an embedded player of the private episode into a page you control the access to.

Ready to test it out for yourself? Access the CMS and get your link!

If can’t access Private Episode Sharing, upgrade to a Broadcaster, Anchorman, or Station plan now to start sharing exclusive content!

This is an awesome feature that I have been looking for! I have a health program that I sell online and have been looking for a way to share private podcast episodes with buyers that look better than sharing via dropbox. I’m excited to put this feature to use.
