Hi Donald! Thank you for doing this interview with us and taking time out of your busy schedule. How are you?
I’m doing fine. Always too busy, but I choose to be active and love to be learning and doing new and challenging things.
Awesome! First, can you introduce yourself and let us know what you do at Spreaker?
I am a veteran of four startup businesses in the Silicon valley, and now I am working part-time helping Spreaker establish operations in the United States. I also host a weekly show The Free COO with Francesco and RC where we offer free advice on building and running a startup company.
How did you start your job at Spreaker?
I met Francesco at a networking event in San Francisco in May of 2011. Shortly after that, I introduced Francesco to the people running a Startup Days event in San Francisco and Spreaker was invited and ultimately voted the best new startup by the panel of Venture Capitalists and the audience in attendance. We subsequently became friends and attended some San Francisco Giants games together. In November, Francesco asked if I could help out with Spreaker’s move to the U.S.
We know we’re in good hands. Which Spreaker feature do you like the most?
Wow, there are so many great features. I really love the iPhone app. It has pretty much replaced my radio now. I plug it into my car and listen in to so many of the great shows on Spreaker. My degree was in acoustical engineering so, I also appreciate the great sound quality of Spreaker. Finally, the interactive nature of Spreaker is truly groundbreaking. The ability to interact with the host in real-time via Spreaker’s chat is fantastic.
Can you give us a few reasons why it’s great working at Spreaker?
The number one reason is the team. Everyone here has been a pleasure to work with, are very smart, and are passionate about the service and our customers. I also really enjoy engaging with the various talent on Spreaker. There are so many different programs and broadcasters who each have a different motivation for broadcasting and create unique and interesting content. They have been very open with me in the chat, via email, or Skype conversations. They seem to love the service as much as we do and always offer great suggestions and feedback about everything we do.
Yeah I’d say we’re a cool bunch of folks. Do you have any fun memories that you would like to share?
At my last startup, when we hit a certain revenue milestone, the entire team flew off to Hawaii for a long weekend. It was a great reward and built wonderful and strong relationships. We are hoping to do the same at Spreaker!
That would be amazing! What are your favorite podcasts on Spreaker?
The Chris Top Program is so much fun to listen to and to participate in the chat. I always find Tazz Daddy to be inspiring and fun. Angel Clark’s show is thought provoking. I think that Engine House Training and The Chris Allen Weather Podcast are interesting examples of corporate uses for Spreaker.
What drives you crazy?
In California, the state Department of Transportation is called CalTrans. It drives me crazy when I see the waste, duplication of effort, and cost overruns that they cause. Nobody ever gets fired or is held accountable for their mistakes. If I were governor, I would shut it down and start over.
Lastly, where can we find you on the internet?
