Hi Anna! Thank you for doing this interview with us and taking time out of your busy schedule. How are you?
I’m great, thanks!
First, can you introduce yourself and let us know what you do at Spreaker?
My name is Anna, and I was born and raised in New York, but am now living in Italy. I’m one of the fabulous Community Managers here at Spreaker, answering your emails and posting on our blog and social networks. You’ve probably heard my interview with Dave Thackeray last week. On my off days you’ll catch me at home with a book, or visiting the local museums (I’m a bit of an art buff).
Your interview with Dave was great, we really enjoyed it! How did you start your job at Spreaker?
I was lucky enough to find this job about a year ago, and have been busily working here ever since! It was all a happy coincidence, I had found a posting online, interviewed, and in the end was hired.
I remember that day, it was a pleasure to meet with you. So, which Spreaker feature do you like the most?
I love the app. The idea of being able to record a show no matter where you are, of being an on-site reporter is really exciting. To think that that kind of complex technology is available as an app is incredible.
Can you give us a few reasons why it’s great working at Spreaker?
I know we keep saying it, and it may sound corny, but we really are a great team. Tonia, the other Community Manager here, and I have a lot of fun working together, joking around. Plus everyone is really open, and we’re small enough that we can bounce ideas around, and actual see our ideas come to life on the site in just a few months.
Thanks for the mention! 🙂 Do you have any fun memories that you would like to share?
Going to Mirabilandia, the amusement park close by, was tons of fun. I’ll admit that I can be kind of shy sometimes, but I was screaming my head off on the roller coasters shamelessly. We really bonded that day.
What are your favourite podcasts on Spreaker?
I get all my film news and reviews on The Monday Movie Show, it’s one that I can’t miss!
What drives you crazy?
Users that bully each other on the site. Don’t do it guys, we’re a community, and in it together!
Where do you see Spreaker in 5 years?
It’s hard to say. Technology develops so much in such a short period of time. Hopefully we’ll be the main audio site out there by then!
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Ah, when I was a kid I would change my mind every week. From actress, to archaeologist, to pastry chef, to art historian. Community Manager seems to suit me well, I think, and it’s a fantastic job to have. You get to work with lots of people, and that social aspect is really fun.
What is your favorite quote?
It’s not so much a quote as an excerpt from Bill Bryson‘s book Notes on a Big Country. It’s kind of bittersweet, but reminds me of what it was like moving from home:
“As well, there has been the constant, unexpected joy of re-encountering those things I grew up with but had largely forgotten: baseball on the radio, the deeply satisfying whoing-bang slam of a screen door in summer, sudden run-for-your-life thunderstorms, really big snowfalls, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July, insects that glow, air-conditioning on really hot days, Jell-o jelly with chunks of fruit in it (which nobody actually eats, but it’s nice just to have it there wobbling on your plate), the pleasingly comical sight of oneself in shorts. All that counts for a lot, in a strange way.”
