Spreaker wouldn’t be the way it is today without the work of our tech guys. Meet Alex, System Adminastrator and traveling nerd.
Hi Alex! Thank you for doing this interview with us and taking time out of your busy schedule. How are you?
Hi folks! I’m great, thanks! To be honest, winter is the season I like the least, so during my spare time I’m taking the opportunity to be DIY and try to make my flat a better place… and to keep myself far from a laptop during weekends, too.
Great picture, by the way. First, can you introduce yourself and let us know what you do at Spreaker?
Sure, I’m Alexander (but everyone just calls me Alex), I’m 31 and I’m the system administrator here at Spreaker, so I’m responsible for the technical infrastructure upon which Spreaker is based: services, servers, networks… all that kind of stuff that usually gets non-techies bored, but are quite cool and fun for those like me that have that kind of geeky disposition. They say that if I do my job right, you don’t even see my presence… meaning that if Spreaker isn’t up and running or playing smoothly, well… now you know who to blame.
We’ll remember that next time! How did you start your job at Spreaker?
I was looking for a position where I could test my skills and where I could be front line in the battle, then I saw a tweet looking for a sysadmin…
And now here you are. Which Spreaker feature do you like the most?
The first time I saw the iPhone app I was very impressed: it was a demo of a live broadcast, a few clicks on the smartphone and it was enough to be live on the internet. Killer!
A favorite across the board with all of us. Can you give us a few reasons why it’s great working at Spreaker?
I love my job, especially when I have to play around with new technologies, and here at Spreaker there’s a great mix: a considerable number of devices to keep under control, a long list of cool features we’d like to see implemented, and the freedom to choose what I consider to be the best technologies out there today. Take an environment full of technology enthusiasts, and you should get the picture. Ah, did I mention that now I live 2km away from the beach? 😉
Do you have any fun memories that you would like to share?
Sorry, I’ve been here for just a few months so I haven’t got that many “fun memories” yet, at least I can’t think of one off the top of my head right now.
We’ll help you out with that! What are your favourite podcasts on Spreaker?
I use Spreaker mostly for listening to (rock) music, so I usually listen to ROBA DA ROCKER and ROCK N’ ROLL CAN NEVER DIE, but recently I’ve discovered Pretty Uncle and I just love them, and talking about technology, I can suggest Tech Talk too.
What drives you crazy?
I love to travel, so far that’s hands down my biggest passion: whenever I can, I take the chance to fly to new places (better if they’re hot and you can sunbathe), maybe to gather with old friends met somewhere around the globe, or maybe just to explore and get the feeling of how other people live, eat, drink and have fun… any excuse is a good one to take a new look at the planet!
Lastly, where can we find you on the internet?
Thanks Alex for this great interview! We both hope that summer will come soon! 🙂
