Finding Podcasting’s Listening Simplicity

0

carradioEvery time I step into a car with an AM/FM radio, I am reminded about the concept of simplicity and ease of use as key reasons why radio grew to have such a large listening audience.

When I contrast the current in-car radio experience with present podcast usability, the AM/FM radio experience is still winning the simplicity test and audiences today.

We have seen usability and simplicity gains of on demand audio and podcasting technology over the past 10 years. These usability improvements have started to erode the listener base of in-car radio and is causing a gradual increase in on demand audio podcasts usage.

The Benefits Of Transcribing Your Podcast

0

If you’re wondering why you should transcribe your podcast, start by considering that the easiest way to find something on the internet (any kind of media – audio, video, images) is through text. By providing a text version, or a transcript, of your podcast’s episodes you can improve its accessibility, shareability, and be able to repurpose that valuable content later on.  It also improves your listeners’ experience, giving them an alternative way to consume your content when tuning in isn’t possible.

“Text is the secret. Converting podcast recordings into a transcript makes it possible for podcast producers to give listeners a better experience.” (Observer.com)

Moreover, as mentioned before, since web searches are text based, a transcript will open up new opportunities; you’ll be able to easily redact your content into blog posts, articles, presentations, and even books. Even your listeners will be able to quickly quote and share what they find valuable from your episode. Let’s take a deeper look at how transcriptions can benefit your podcast:

How Web Technologies Helped Build a Cross-Platform Desktop App

0

Spreaker’s first incarnation of its recording and streaming tool was the web-based, browser console, and though it is the oldest piece of software in our ecosystem, it still continues to serve many podcasters to this day.

However, since then Spreaker has continued to evolve. In fact, just last year we decided to build Spreaker Studio for Desktop, a downloadable desktop app that brings a whole new look and feel to Spreaker’s podcasting tools.

So why the need for the update? The answer is simple: every piece of software has an expiration date…well, sort of. It doesn’t mean that one day that software will just stop working, but that technology moves so fast that the line between impossible and possible constantly shifts.
One of our missions is to give podcasters tools that are intuitive as well as feature-complete, so that the only thing they’ll ever have to worry about is creating great content. It’s up to us to provide state of art of technology.

What gets an app featured on Google Play?

0

Spreaker launched in 2010 as a product available only on the web, used mainly on desktop computers. But with the subsequent rise in popularity of smartphones and tablets, users wanted to also enjoy a similar experience on their mobile devices.

We released our official Spreaker Android app in September 2013, allowing our users to listen to their favorite podcasts, enjoy live streaming, and even create their own live and pre-recorded content. This has been a great source of feedback from our existing users as well as new ones.

As time passed, we realized that having one single app for both listeners and producers was actually an obstacle in giving a great experience for these two very different types of users. So in September 2014 Spreaker Studio for Android was born: a brand new app totally focused on content creators where you can broadcast live or record your episodes. Its interface allows you to mix voice, audio tracks, and multiple sound effects, as well as access statistics and manage shows and episodes.

How did getting featured actually happen?
